What ages do you offer lessons for?
We offer lessons for children ages 6 months and older. Our Parent and Me classes are for children ages 6 months to 2 years with the parent in the water. Children ages 2 years and up may enroll in group lessons. Our curriculum for group lessons begins with a required 2 week readiness camp followed by maintenance classes once or twice a week. An alternative to the 2 week camp to achieve the readiness preparation needed to begin maintenance is 3 private lessons.

Do you offer adult classes?

What is survival swimming?
Survival swimming is the ability to get to the surface, take a breath, float on back, call for help, scull on their back to the side and climb out of the water. We focus on these skills with our advanced beginner swimmers.

What is the Water Strong Evaluation?
We strive for our swimmers to become Water Strong. This means the swimmer has the capability to handle a fall in to the water. The Water Strong Evaluation is performed once a swimmer has mastered the survival swimming skills. Wearing blue jeans, t-shirt and shoes, the student will jump in the water, ascend to the surface, float on back, scull to the side, hold the wall and climb out of the water to safety. Students receive a Water Strong Certificate and we proudly display their picture on our Water Strong Wall

What will my child learn after two weeks?
Learning to swim is an on-going process. Each swimmer learns and develops their skills at his/her own rate. Our curriculum is student centered. Therefore, each swimmer will progress differently through the two week course and throughout their PSA maintenance experience.

Why must my child attend a 2 week camp before entering into a maintenance class?
The purpose of the two week camp is to acclimate the swimmer to the PSA environment, curriculum, and staff to optimize the effectiveness of ongoing maintenance lessons.

What are the qualifications of the coaches?
All coaches complete the 40 hour Pearland Swim Academy Curriculum Coaches Training developed by owner, Juan Caraveo. The curriculum includes techniques proven to be successful from Coach Juan’s teaching experience. All coaches also hold current CPR/First Aid Certification.

What teaching method do the coaches use?
All coaches follow the distinct skill progression and methods of the Pearland Swim Academy curriculum using a Firm, Fair and Fun approach. We adapt each lesson to each child’s readiness.
